In the last few years researchers from different disciplines have been studying GHG emissions from the agoforestry sector with the aim of quantifying and mitigating GHG emissions.

Some researchers have focused on one gas, others on the C stored in the organic matter. Moreover, studies have been carried out at different spatial scales: animal scale, soil-plant system scale or/and different temporal scales:  weekly-monthly physical plot experiments or annual or longer modeling studies.    

We ,the researchers, believe that is important to create a common framework where we can discuss and gather all the scientific evidence in relation to the three main GHG and C sequestration acting together through different scales and methodologies in Spain. With this Workshop we intend to achieve a better insight into the net global effect of mitigation measures and also to contribute to the evidence that informs policy and promotes medium and long-term sustainability and integration of strategies.     

The first activity to start this process is the organization of the first workshop on mitigation of GHG emissions from the Spanish agroforestry sector.  

This is an opportunity to present the latest scientific advances in the area of greenhouse gas research in the agroforestry sector.

Besides, we also intend to initiate a new scientific network on this field and contribute internationally to recent initiatives that require national articulation.

This Workshop  on mitigation of GHG emissions from the Spanish agroforestry sector will be held on March 8 to 9 2012 at Museo Maritimo  in Bilbao.
