Assistance Mechanism for the Atlantic Action Plan Focal Point

Post-doctoral researcher, Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3)


The Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3) offers an 18-month contract with the level of financial support according to the academic and professional profile of the applicant.

Context: The Atlantic Action Plan (AAP) was forged with the aim of identifying key investment and research priorities along the EU's Atlantic seaboard that will be needed in order to help both mature and emerging sectors in the marine and maritime economy to flourish. Hence, the AAP is required to enhance and work effectively alongside existing policy frameworks that are active in the AAP territories.

One of such focus areas involves Spain, where the AAP offers an opportunity for the private sector, researchers, regional and national public bodies and other actors to collaborate and implement beneficial projects that respond to these priorities in ways that generate positive, synergetic and sustainable results.
In this perspective, relevant areas for AAP intervention in Spain would include: Blue energy; Aquaculture; Maritime, coastal and cruise tourism; Extraction of mineral resources from the seabed and Blue biotechnology.

Role: The Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3) has been selected to act as the Focal Point for Spain and we are offering an 18-month full-time post-doctoral fellowship. Required tasks would involve:

  • Pro-active relationship-building & Networking with Spanish stakeholders, Events organisation, Events participation, Assistance provision to project development, Helpdesk & Info line.
  • Development of structured working relations with the teams involved in the project, adherence to management procedures and reporting, contribution to communication activities i.e. website/brochure/video/annual conference.

Essential skills required: (please do not apply if you do not fulfil these as they are a must pre-requisite):

  • Experience in gathering and analysing Stakeholder feedback through user surveys and other evaluation forms.
  • Strong language skills (fluent in English and Spanish) to target the Spanish and wider targeted audience.
  • Possibility to travel inside or outside Spain in a regular basis and availability to start as soon as possible.

Knowledge or experience in applying/ finding opportunities for coastal and marine domestic and EU Funding Instruments (EMFF; Horizons 2020; COSME; etc.) is crucial and would be highly valued.

Location: BC3 Basque Centre for Climate Change, Bilbao, Spain.

Tenure: The position will be for a period of 18 months with a possibility for extending it a further upon a positive assessment of the performance of the work carried out by the candidate during the fellowship.

Salary: The position will carry competitive salaries according to the academic and professional profile of the applicant and excellent conditions of work.
