Klimagune Confererences:Taking a look at Climate Change (Cineforo) , is a series of conferences jointly organised by BC3, the Basque Centre for Climate Change and Bilbao City Council’s Environment Sub-area, providing a cross-disciplinary vision of climate change with scientific rigour and a local approach. Its aim is to contribute to generating a more and better informed society as regards the collective bid for sustainably focused social and economic development.
These conferences aspire to generate social debate enabling the projection of future scenarios that will optimise the probability of a successful future implementation of climate change control policies based on economic and environmental considerations.
Climate Change: Human health impact
"Why addressing climate change may be good for your health?" This is the issue to be debated at the first conference on climate change and its health impact.
To study the subject in depth, a short documentary film will be shown and there will be a speech on the human health impact of various environmental factors by an international expert scientist, Dr. Paul Wilkinson, who will talk on the challenges that Climate change poses worldwide both because of the need to adapt to the expected environmental, social, economic and public health impacts and because of the major implications for all sectors of the economy of attempting to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Before going on to the next debate, the Head of Bilbao City Council’s Sub-Area of Environmental Health and Urban Hygiene, Dr. Ramón Aldamiz-Echevarria, will talk from a local, close-at-hand perspective on the impacts on health. "Bilbao: Impacts and forecasts for climate change in public health. Emerging diseases”.
* The conference of Dr Paul Wilkinson will be in English with simultaneous translation into Spanish.
