Dr. Anderson has been involved in international development issues for over 30 years. This work has taken him to Latin America, Africa and South Asia. He has worked for NGOs, Universities and Governments.
For over a decade now Simon has specialised in the management of climate risks from the perspectives of governance and economic development, and in the assessment of adaptation responses. From 2004 to 2007 he led a UK government department team in the design and implementation of climate adaptation research and then evaluation. During this time Simon has supported developing country governments establish national adaptation programmes.
Simon’s international engagement has included being part of the international review panel for the UNFCCC Adaptation Fund evaluation, technical member of the Swedish Commission on Climate Change and Development and leading the joint-evaluation of the Least Developed Countries Fund set up under the Marrakesh Accord.
For five years now Simon has led a multi-disciplinary team in a non-profit development organisation that addresses different aspects of climate adaptation including supporting legal and technical aspects of UNFCCC negotiations, the governance and financing of climate adaptation at sub-national levels, and the development of policy links among climate resilience and green economy.
His skills and experience include:
1- Experienced researcher, research manager and evaluation specialist in NGOs, UK civil service (DFID) and universities
2- Design and implementation of major action-research and evaluation programmes
3- Experience of working in different developing countries in Latin American, Africa and South Asian countries.
4- Team leadership and capacity development skills especially in research, action-research and evaluation methodologies.
Professor of Economics and Agricultural Policy at the Polytechnic University of Madrid Higher Technical School of Agricultural Engineering; currently Director of the Department of Agricultural Economy, Statistics and Business Management and head of the Research Group on Agricultural Economy and Management of Natural Resources at the same University. She is also a member of Ceigram (Study and Research Centre for the Management of Agricultural and Environmental Risks). Between 2010 and 2013 she was a member of the Monitoring Committee for the Cajamar-UPM Chair of Social Economy and Cooperativism and she has been a member of the Monitoring Committee for the Fertiberia Chair at the UPM since 2011. Throughout her almost 35 years of dedication to the University she has focussed her work and research on analysing the effects of agricultural policy and the determinants that prompt producers to take certain measures, in addition to the field of rural development.
She has published more than 50 research works in the shape of articles or chapters of books, many of these in journals included in the JCR. She has participated, as a researcher and/or chief researcher, in 13 national and international competitive projects, and in more than 22 important contracts with public institutions.
She was a member of the Editorial Committee of the “Revista de Estudios Agro-Sociales”, and later of the “Revista Española de Economía Agraria” from 1991 to 1999; member of the Editorial Committee of the Journal “Economía Agraria y de los Recursos Naturales” from 2001 to 2007 and Assistant Director of the “Revista Española de Estudios Agrosociales y Pesqueros”, from 2005 to 2012.
