Bettina studied economics at the Chemnitz University of Technology in Germany where she graduated as Diplom - Volkswirt.

Alongside her studies she worked as a student assistant for the economic department of her university where she was involved in issues of international environmental economics and climate change.

She also had two internships at the Centre for European Economic Research in Mannheim (Germany) where she supported research in the field of energy security. Based on her research activities there, she dedicated her final university thesis to the topic “Energy security: concept, indicators and modeling”.
Climate change carries an important social dimension as developing countries are especially vulnerable to its adverse impacts. International choices for mitigation and adaptation strategies must go beyond economic efficiency considerations and explicitly include equity aspects.
Support of socio- economic development and reduction of poverty will help to reduce the vulnerability of developing countries to climate change. The ambition is to encourage international cooperation and concrete actions for future equitable development and global well-being. “
