In the fight against climate change, the best scientific knowledge at the highest level is essential as a basis for decision making and the definition of public policies.
In this process, I would like to mention first, the importance of the past as the key to understand the future. Understanding past processes and their effects is critical to properly define future strategies. Second, we must remember the principle "think global, act local". Rigorously analyze the specific situation of the Basque Country must serve to promote and develop the best policies to cope with this threat.

Junior researcher - PhD Student
Main Research Line:
Developing and supporting research that informs climate policy in the Basque Country, as well as study the paleoclimate issues, in order to obtain physical data on possible effects of climate change.
Expected Results:
First significant results and contributions are expected by 2011.
Elisa Sainz de Murieta is graduated in Geological Sciences at the University of the Basque Country.
She has an MSc on Environmental Management and Engineering at the EOI (Industrial Organization School) of Madrid.
She has worked as quality systems assistant and from July 2005 to May 2009 she was Director for Biodiversity and Environmental Participation of the Basque Government. Here, she was in charge of framework planning of protected areas, the development of the Basque Center for Biodiversity or the Strategy for Biodiversity 2009-2013.
She is currently completing a MSc on Quaternary science and environmental change at the University of the Basque Country and enrolling in the Ph.D program.
