Climate change is one of the most dangerous problems of the contemporary world. We can either adapt to expected climate changes or mitigate their effects. The greenhouse gas emission from anthropogenic sources has been identified as the main cause of climate change.

There are multiple strategies to reduce global GHG emissions through international cooperation, the substitution of fossil fuels with energy production from energy crops may be one of those strategies.”

  • Position:
    Junior researcher - PhD Student
  • Main Research Line:
To study the potential role of typical energy cropping systems as net GHG mitigation tools.
  • Expected Results:
To develop a modeling framework to study the main N, C and energy flows and losses of typical energy crop rotations.

To explore the most appropriate combinations of energy crop choice, site conditions and field managements which mitigate best GHG from land use with minimal trade-offs in other forms of pollution.

CURRICULUM VITAE

  • Patricia Gallejones is graduated in Biological Sciences at the University of the Basque Country.
  • She has an MSc on Environmental Agrobiology. She studied the “Influence of N and S fertilization on S balance and grain quality in a wheat-rapeseed rotation”.
  • She has been working at NEIKER institute since 2007 studying the energy balance and life cycle analysis of rapeseed for biodiesel.
  • And she has participated in the following projects:
    • Development of a management plan for the livestock waste produced in the Basque Country.
    • The new ICT being used for the Council and the Farming Networks of the Atlantic Area. Precision Agriculture and on-line services offer.
    • Study of the influence of wind turbine generators on soil moisture content.
    • Nitrogen and sulphur efficient management in a wheat-oil seed rape rotation under environmental, yield and product quality aspects.
