Short CV

Dr. Jorge Curiel Yuste, holds an Ikerbasque Research Professorship in BC3 since April 2017. He obtained his doctorate from the University of Antwerp (UA, Belgium) in 2004. Throughout his scientific career, he has been awarded with several grants and postdoctoral fellowships of international recognitions, among which are two Marie Curie Intra-European-IEF (Universita Seconda di Napoli, CREAF) and a “Ramón y Cajal” research fellowship (Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales, MNCN).

Dr. Jorge Curiel Yuste has extensive experience in the study of terrestrial carbon and nutrient cycling. Part of his scientific work has been also dedicated to explore new frontiers on terrestrial ecosystem ecology, focusing on the role of soil microbial communities. His studies have shown, among other things: (1). The importance of soil respiration, and its different components (autotrophic and heterotrophic) as a major contributor to total CO2 emissions from terrestrial ecosystems; and its dependence on climate and plant health and phenology; (2). The vulnerability of terrestrial systems and soil carbon stocks to global change engines; (3). The role of biodiversity in ecosystem responses to climate change and its implications in biogeochemical cycles: (4) The role of plant -soil interactions in ecosystem responses to climate change and its implications in biogeochemical cycles
