The influence of human societies on the rest of the Earth has grown out of proportion. The unsustainable exploitation of natural resources has led to widespread environmental degradation, threatening the persistence of Earth’s ecosystems. This is already taking a toll at human well-being, and yet little has been done to halt or revert such degradation. The time has come to render our vast knowledge on the Earth ecosystems instrumental in developing tools that can guide the design of policies directed to ensure a sustainable use of resources. With great power comes great responsibility.

Short CV

While pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Fundamental Physics, my interests shifted from the inert matter to the living world, which led me to pursue a Master's in Biological Physics. Concerns about sustainability and human societies' role in the current environmental crisis motivated me to engage in a PhD. on the study of the dynamics of coupled human-nature systems. My approach was a modelling one, and I developed and explored spatially explicit models of land-use change in agricultural landscapes coupled to human population dynamics and resource consumption. I am currently a Postdoctoral researcher working on the ARIES project. My strengths are the conception, computational implementation and analysis of human-nature models.
