Climate change will cause increasing health threats on our communities within the next 20 years, especially in the poorest countries and among vulnerable populations.

Health adaptation must therefore become a priority in policy making, and actions must be taken now to avoid unacceptable and unsustainable damages in the near future to our society, families and children."

CURRICULUM VITAE

  • Aline Chiabai is graduated in Economics at the University of Trieste.
  • She holds a Master in environmental quality management and a PhD in “Transport, Traffic and Environment”.
  • She has been working in Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei since 2001 as environmental economist in the program “Sustainability indicators and environmental valuation”, specialized in environmental and health economics.
  • She has acquired specific expertise on the valuation of climate change impacts on social welfare and human health for policy guidance, biodiversity valuation and economic valuation of environmental pollution impacts, including air pollution and waste.
  • She holds a research fellowship at the University Cà Foscari, Venice, in the economic valuation of climate change impacts on biodiversity ecosystem services, and she is involved in research activities with the European Investment Bank.
  • She has worked as consultant for CORILA (Consortium for the Management of the Coordination Centre of the Research Activities Related with the Lagoon of Venice) in urban regeneration through environmental remediation, and as environmental impact assessment consultant in the valuation of noise, air pollution and traffic congestion impacts.
  • Past academic experience includes the position of adjunct professor at the University Cà Foscari. Starting from October 2008 she will work for the Basque Centre for Climate change as research officer.
  • She has published in a variety of international journals including Regional Science and Urban Economics, Journal of Risk and Uncertainty, Risk Analysis, Global Environmental Change, Transportation Research.
  • She has participated to several projects including:
    • COPI (The Cost of Polity Inaction: The case of not meeting the 2010 biodiversity target);
    • EXIOPOL (A New Environmental Accounting Framework Using Externality Data and Input-Output Tools for Policy Analysis);
    • CLIBIO (Impacts of Climate Change and Biodiversity Effects);
    • VERHI Children (Valuation of Environment-Related Health Impacts: Accounting for Differences Across Age and Latency with a Particular Focus on Children);
    • PRIDE (Production of Industrial Waste in Italy: Economic Development and Choice in Productive Sectors);
    • INTELCITIES (Intelligent Cities); ISAAC (Integrated e-Services for Advanced Access to Heritage in Cultural Tourist Destinations); Remediation Policies for the Contaminated Site Porto Maghera-Venice: Benefit Valuation, financed by CORILA;
    • cCASHh (Climate change and adaptation strategies for human health in Europe);
    • MFSTEP (Mediterranean Ocean Forecasting System: Towards Environmental Predictions).
