Unprecedented levels of resource depletion and climate change are clear examples of two of the
greatest challenges we are facing in the 21st century. To get out of the current socio-ecological
trap, we require holistic approaches that will be able to integrate diverse types of knowledge and, to
deal with the multiple and conflicted interests that coexist in society. My hope is to contribute to
this scientific and social challenge in the transition towards a more sustainable society.
