Short CV

María works on the field of urban planning and its link to climate adaptation, resilience and social equity.

With a background on Architecture (Bsc + Msc 2011, University of Navarra, Pamplona) and a specialization in Landscape and Environment (2011, University of Navarra), she spent more than 5 years working as urban designer in different offices in Spain, Portugal and Mexico, where she participated and coordinated multiple urban/landscape transformative design projects related to sustainability and regeneration.

In 2018 she earned a MSc in Urban Management and Development from IHS, Erasmus University Rotterdam (Netherlands), choosing the Urban Environment, Sustainability and Climate Change specialization, and acquiring knowledge about city management and the science-policy interrelation. Her Master Thesis was an "Analysis of the Ecosystem Services supply and demand for human well-being and Climate Adaptation" in the city of Taunggyi, Myanmar, focusing on the multifaceted benefits of urban green spaces in developing regions.

She is currently working at BC3 analysing climate adaptation policies from the 136 largest coastal cities worldwide, evaluating their credibility in social, political, economic and scientific terms, and assessing if and how these initiatives will effectively address future coastal risks. She is also involved in European projects related to the implementation of local climate adaptation policies, their link to urban development and their impact on the level of well-being and equity.
