Short CV

Alevgül Sorman (Alev) is an Ikerbasque Research Associate at the Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3). Her research scrutinizes energy transitions with insights from human geography, political ecology and ecological and biophysical economics.

Her publications have contributed to debates on territorial implications of renewable energy expansions, the role of participation and gender-sensitive representations within energy decision-making mechanisms, and synergies across environmental and labour organisations, with co-creation at the heart of her research.

Alev has participated in numerous international and European consortia, currently, she is in the Horizon Europe SSH-CENTRE Research Project. She was formerly part of H2020 PARIS REINFORCE, H2020 TRANSrisk, and H2020 EUFORIE Projects among others.

Alev received her PhD from ICTA-UAB (Institute of Environmental Science and Technology of the Autonomous University of Barcelona) in 2011 working on the Energetic Metabolism of Societies. She has an MSc degree from Lund University in Environmental Studies and Sustainability Science, Lund, Sweden (2007) and a BSc in Environmental Engineering from the Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara, Turkey a year spent at Rice University – Houston, Texas, USA.

She has previously been a visiting researcher at the Pufendorf Institute for Advanced Studies (Sweden), Universidad Federal do Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Instituto de Altos Estudios (Ecuador) and the Italian National Institute for Statistics (Italy).

Alev is also engaged in Youth Action and Climate Outreach. She has participated in the Ship for World Youth (SWY) Programme hosted by the Cabinet Office of Japan in 2012 and 2020.
