Short CV

Leif Vogel research interests range from chemistry, physics of the atmosphere and climate change to health impacts of air pollution and their economic valuation. In the frame of his Marie Sklodowska-Curie fellowship he is assessing air pollution and its impact on human health on European and global scale. He has broad experience in experimental and theoretical remote sensing of atmospheric trace gases, aerosol properties and radiative transfer calculations, and expertise in the analysis of large atmospheric data sets.


Since July 2015, Leif Vogel is working as a post-doctoral Researcher and Marie Sklodowska-Curie Inter-European Fellow at the Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3). In the frame of his fellowship he is assessing air pollution and its impact on human health with the goal of economic valuation of air pollution on European and global scale.


From May 2013 till April 2015 he worked as a Post-doc in the group of Hartmut Bösch at the Earth Observation Science group, Space Research Center, University Leicester. His research concerned satellite retrievals of greenhouse gases (CH4, CO2) and CO. He was also involved in assessing the precision of greenhouse gas measurements of the future Sentinel 5 and CarbonSat satellite missions.


Between 2007 and 2012 Leif Vogel performed research on atmospheric trace gases with a focus on volcanic emissions as a doctoral student and post-doc in the group of Prof. Dr. U. Platt, Institute for Environmental Physics, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Ruprecht-Karls-University Heidelberg, Germany.


Leif Vogel obtained his PhD (Doctor rer. nat.) in Physics in December 2011 with his work on Volcanic plumes: Evaluation of spectroscopic measurements, early detection, and bromine chemistry.
