Fast-action GHG emissions mitigation strategies: Strengthening the Montreal Protocol and other measures to reduce non-CO2 GHG emissions.

Date: 24th of November

Time: 12:00-13:30

Venue: Palacio Euskalduna, 3rd Floor Sala B Terraza

Professor Molina is one of the world’s most influential researchers in atmospheric chemistry. His seminal research about the destroying effects that chlorofluorocarbons have on the ozone layer ultimately led to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. This was the first international agreement to effectively tackle a global environmental problem caused by human activities.
Thanks to his work and contributions to science Professor Molina has been the recipient of different honours including the 1995 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. He is a member of both the National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Medicine in the United States. He currently serves as one of the 21 members of the Science and Technology Advisory Council to President Barack Obama.
Nowadays, Professor Molina is a researcher in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California in San Diego, as well as in the Center of Atmospheric Sciences at Scripps Institute of Oceanography. This institute is one of the leading research centers on climate change. In Mexico, Professor Molina chairs a centre with his name that is primarily devoted to research on the causes and solutions of air quality and climate change.
