Short CV
I hold a PhD in Ecology and the Environment at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, specialized in Rangeland Ecology.
Beyond my research career, I developed a professional career in the field of international development. Starting in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina with the Black Vulture Conservation Foundation (BVCF; 2007-2009), I continued by working for the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Nairobi, Kenya (2010-2014), and for the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, Italy (2014-2015). I later also conducted consultancies for various international organizations and NGOs, including FAO, the World Bank, IUCN, GiZ, and the Land Portal, among others. In parallel, I developed research integrating the economic, social and environmental aspects of livestock keeping under a global scope.
Before joining BC3 I worked for two years at the Global Change and Conservation research group in the University of Helsinki, developing research approaches to integrate transdisciplinary work on pastoralist socio-ecosystems. During this time I also collaborated with BC3 as an Associate Researcher, disentangling the effects of livestock-mediated emissions from those emitted by wildlife. I continue working on both research lines as BC3 staff.
At a personal level, and aligning with BC3's vision, I am very concern about anthropogenic climate change and human-mediated global change. Carl Sagan's quote when addressing the US Congress is worth remembering:
"Essential for this problem is a global consciousness. A view that transcends our exclusive identifications with the generational and political groupings into which, by accident, we have been born. The solution to these problems requires a perspective that embraces the planet and the future because we are all in this greenhouse together."
